What is liquid screed and how is it different from traditional screed?
Liquid screed is pumped onto floor surfaces to create a smooth and even finish. Liquid screed is self-levelling and quick-drying and is also self-compacting. This greatly reduces the risk of voids which makes it ideal for use with underfloor heating systems.
Compared to traditional sand and cement floor screed, liquid screed is more quickly applied and can be walked upon within 24 hours and force dried in 7 days.
Traditional floor screed must be applied thickly to avoid cracking and shrinkage, whereas liquid floor screed can be laid as thinly as 20mm and in some cases, as low as 12mm.

Types of screeding services offered
There are various types of screeding services offered by professional floor screeding companies.
Clockwork Screed provides liquid floor screeding services. We pump liquid floor screed to where it is needed. Liquid screed is self-levelling, so labour-intensive, manual intervention is not required to produce smooth, even floors with our products.
Traditional sand and cement screed, which is mixed with water, is manually applied and levelled, and takes longer to dry.
Other types of screeding services offered include bonded and unbonded screeds. Bonded screeds are typically cement-based screeds attached to the concrete substrate, used for thin applications. Unbonded screeds are detached from the substrate by a membrane or insulation layer, and often used as a dry screed in damp environments.
Floating screeds usually have an acoustic or thermal layer. A minimum thickness of 65mm is required, or up to 75mm if the floor is heavily loaded.
Typical floor screeding process explained
Clockwork Screed’s typical floor screeding process is as follows:
The liquid screed is delivered to site in one of our unique mobile screed plants
We pump the screed directly onto the floor
Clockwork Screed’s cementitious liquid floor screed can be laid as thinly as 25mm, yet it is exceptionally strong. This keeps costs down and allows for an even distribution of heat from underfloor heating systems
The liquid screed self-compacts and self-levels
Up to 1000m² of floor space can be covered in a day
Up to 100m² of liquid floor screed can be laid without joints when there is an underfloor heating system. If there is no underfloor heating system, this rises to 150m²
The customer only pays for the screed they use. There is no waste
Our cementitious liquid screed dries quickly, allowing light footfall within 24 to 48 hours.
