Liquid Screed Floor Contractors

liquid screed flooring

Liquid screed flooring is a layer of material applied over a concrete subfloor to create a smooth and level surface for the installation of additional floor finishes such as tiles, wood, or carpet.

Floor screed is pumped across the floor, filling any holes or irregularities, and producing a smooth, level finish.

Our mobile screed equipment at Clockwork Screed are used to deliver the best service possible. Using our cutting-edge Transmix vehicles, the screed is batch-produced on-site and pumped straight onto the floor.

If there is underfloor heating, we can construct 100 m2 of floor screed without seams; if there isn't, we can install 150 m2. Anything in a project, including outdoor areas and rooms prone to moisture, can have liquid floor screed laid.

Liquid screeds have different properties than traditional screeds, making them a better choice for most flooring applications. It is self-levelling and dries faster, resulting in a quicker installation of the flooring.

Liquid screed is also made of eco-friendly materials and uses less cement, which means that it has a lower carbon footprint. And because it can confine the heat in the space and is thermally conductive, liquid screed is a superior option for underfloor heating systems.

Commercial floor screeding

Commercial floor screeding is used in buildings such as offices, retail spaces, warehouses, and factories and is ideal for commercial and industrial projects because of its quick-drying properties. It can be walked on within 24 to 48 hours, allowing other trades to return to the job site quickly and proceed to the next stage of construction.

A screed floor is a long-lasting surface that can withstand heavy traffic and wear and tear. This makes it ideal for commercial buildings with high foot traffic and equipment or machinery movement. A level and even floor surface also lowers the risk of trips and falls, making employees and customers safer.

Commercial floor screeding can be a practical, cost-effective solution for creating a level, smooth surface that can be finished in a variety of colours and textures for a visually appealing and modern appearance.

What does a floor screeding company do?

A floor screeding company is appointed either directly by a homeowner or commercial client, or by a subcontractor for a main contractor, or property developer.

The role of a floor screeding company isn’t limited to pouring screed where it is needed. Subfloor preparation, mixing the screed to the required specification, levelling the screed and managing the drying process are all tasks handled by the floor screeding company.

Floor screeding teams must also clearly communicate and manage expectations around timescales to ensure all contractors and stakeholders are prepared for their time on site.

Benefits of choosing a liquid floor screeding company

Because of the performance of liquid screed, there are several benefits of choosing a liquid floor screeding company over a supplier of alternative screeds.

  • Pouring liquid screed is a quicker, less complex application process compared to other screeds. At Clockwork Screed we can cover 1000m² in just one day
  • Liquid screed self-levels to produce a smooth, robust floor. This avoids the need for additional labour and equipment to level the screed
  • A liquid screed layer can be applied very thinly compared to traditional screed. At just 25mm thick, a liquid screed floor dries very quickly and optimises the performance of underfloor heating systems without compromising on strength
  • Liquid screed dries more quickly than other screeds. It can withstand foot traffic within 48 to 72 hours, at which point construction workers can get back onto site to keep the project on track
  • Liquid screed has minimal shrinkage rates of under 0.05%
  • Unlike anhydrite screeds, liquid screeds don’t produce surface laitance (a powdery layer) which makes the screed unsuitable for adhesives and other bonding finishes. As such, anhydrite screeds aren’t suitable for areas where water is used such as bathrooms and kitchens
  • Liquid floor screeding companies work well with underfloor heating installers. This is because liquid screed self-compacts, so covers all the pipework without creating gaps from which heat could escape. Liquid screed also offers exceptional thermal conductivity properties, thereby optimising the performance of the underfloor heating system.

Clockwork Screed works with our sister company, Clockwork Underfloor Heating to design and install underfloor heating systems.

Case study focus - Yum Cha

Clockwork Screed's recent screed floor installation at Manchester's Yum Cha restaurant was a departure from our usual installations.

We were contacted by the owners of Liverpool's highly successful Yum Cha restaurant, known for its authentic Chinese small plates, for assistance with the floor installation at their new restaurant in Manchester city centre.

We quickly organised a site survey to share our expertise and advice, after which Yum Cha appointed us to complete the screeding works.

Most of our liquid floor screed installations are finished in a natural state; this was ideal for Yum Cha because they specifically requested that the natural finish be left in place so that it could be polished later.

The client desired an industrial style décor to represent their brand and cuisine in an authentically earthy and relaxed manner. And the polished concrete floor would look great with the soft lanterns and wood carvings. Read more about our liquid screed case study here.
